Default Batch convert to another format?????

I know you can batch rename in CS2 but what if you just want to change from jpg to tif? I tried it on some test images and thank goodness I did a test first at it didn't work and I couldn't get the images back. Now, considering my considerable knowledge of Photoshop (or lack of.? .? . [shhh]) I may have screwed up the attempt.

So, that said, what did I do wrong?

As always, muchos graces

FORGOT TO MENTION - The four test images were labeled 01 to 05.png when the rename procedure finished. When I try and open one however I get a window that says, "Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file."

I have no clue what "parse" means so I can't even analyze my own effort to rename with a change from jpg to png.

Hey Lee,

How did you go about it? Did you create a simple action which opened the files, saved as TIFFs (to a designated folder and then close the file? (Stop Recording)

Nah, that would be too easy, Welles. Don't you know by now, I do everything the hardway. . . . .One image at t time, buddy. [sigh]

Actually, the reason is that there are too many variables that I want to change to do an action. I am reducing some images before converting and enlarging others. I am also tweaking some of them a little as they look different on the Mac LCD than on my PC CRT (better but different). That's why I asked you about PhotoZoom. I would like to get it but want to be sure it can enlarge just for computer use (to be viewed as wallpaper etc) and not necessarily for printing and I know GF saves to it's own format which I do not think would work as wallpaper.

Whoa! In your original post you were trying to do a batch process. That implies you build an action and use it as the basis for your batch processing. Now you arent doing that?

I'm confused! :]

However I do have a strong suggestion about the color difference between Mac/Windows monitors. On your Mac system you should profile your monitor to a gamma of 2.2 rather than the Mac standard of 1.8 which always looks too washed out on a PC. Also, if you are going to print, consider trying a profile with a warm 5000-5500K rather than the 'normal' 6500K daylight setting. It will warm your screen but give a more accurate view of printed colors.

The best software calibration software for Mac, SuperCal, can be used for free but costs about $20 if registered. It does a great job, much better than Adobe Gamma or the built in profiling software of OS X.

I guess I wasn't very clear on the batch processing. Sorry, Welles. I wanted to know if it was possible to batch process changing an images file format - from jpeg to tiff for example. I was hoping there was something right in PS like Batch Renaming. Then I realized that because each image is going to need some tweaking so it looks right on my system I could not use an action or batch processing anyway.

You mentioned being confused. Don't feel bad, Amigo. At least you have the comfort in knowing the yours is temporary. I have to live with being confused every day of my life.? .? . LOL .? .? . [confused]

Thanks for the tips on Kelvin temp and gamma. I'll look into that.? [righton]
