For non-stupid horror, the originals of The Wicker Man and The Vanishing (aka Spoorloos in Dutch, apparently). I haven't seen the remakes and, given the reviews they got, I don't plan to.

I second the original of The Vanishing. Almost saw the remake a few days ago, but luckily changed my mind at the last moment.

Otherwise, consider The Ordeal (Calvaire is the original title), Audition, Dead Man's Shoes, Wolf Creek, Trouble Every Day, Dark Water, Visitor Q, Saw and Satan (Sheitan) to name but a few.

I agree, every film of his that I've seen has been great. Perhaps not the Happiness of the Katikuris - have you seen that? Very strange and a great idea, but perhaps just a touch too weird.

Any film with zombies in it is usually good for a laugh especially the Return Of The Living Dead series.
