Ok rang the bank, they did nothing, saying that it was harsh, but they 'only do 1 gesture of goodwill for every customer' and my charge of 76 quid in October 2005 was my gesture of goodwill. wakefield's citizens advice bureau is closed, so feeling a bit cross and lost right now

Try the MoneySavingExpert.com forum... people may have better advice on there (some likely to have been in the same position). It's a pretty active forum I think.

cheers will check that forum out. tried leeds as well, but it put me on hold. wakefields is closed on a weds. my gf is lending me some money for leeds which makes me feel slightly less angry

Email the financial ombudsman.
They will get back to you in due course.
The banks don't like to cross him/them.

And look, to the people who keep telling me to check my bank account, why should I have to check when I spent about 2 hours before i went away sorting out what bills were owed over the summer, and made sure the right amount of money was available. yes 19p ffs. anyway that is not the point, kym has suggested i ring up citizens advice and see what they say, so am going to do this as well. </BLOCKQUOTE>

I'm guessing they have the address of your student digs, but you were home for the summer? If that is the case, them not contacting you does not really give you any legal grounds to fight them, as they'll just argue you hadn't updated your contact details. </BLOCKQUOTE>

Then as far as i'm aware, you should have had a letter for each charge? That may be something to use if you don't get anywhere.
