| No, thats a MAC address.
Security keys are either passphrased, or 13 or 26 hexadecimal characters for WEP.

Right so I managed to find the code and connect to the wireless network,with an excellent signal,but for some reason when I connect to the internet explorer it says 'unable to connect', with possible reasons such as problem with the site or web address spelt incorrectly given.Wtf is up?BTW,my laptop runs on Vista and my PC on XP,if that matters...

what's more secure, using wep encryption or restricting access to a connection to one or two specific mac addresses?

| You can fake MAC addresses so thats not very secure, neither is WEP really. If your router doesnt support WPA then MAC filter with WEP 128bit and hide the SSID.

WEP is disgustingly easy to hack. I know because I hacked my own after seeing a youtube clip where someone does it in a few minutes with a few mouseclicks. I was shocked that even I, as a complete wireless dunce, could also do it. Even deauthenticated the SSID. I felt like I was in Wargames.
