Now I know the immediate reaction of a hell of a lot of people is going to be 'no, what are you thinking, dunstable is a complete hole'
I'm living in St Albans, working in Dunstable (often at odd hours), can't drive, so getting to and from work is a pain. Work was going to move to St Albans in November (which was why I went to St Albans in the first place) but it's been put back to January, and of course there's a risk it'll get put back again.
Pros of moving
- £100 cheaper in rent a month
- ten minute walk to work as opposed to having to either ask someone for a lift, £3 a time on a half hour bus or £4 a time on an hour long train/bus combo.
- all of the new blokes at work, who I get on well with, live in Dunstable.
- I don't know anyone in St Albans
- my housemate is a bit of a pain in the arse, nags me a lot
- it's a nice flat in dunstable, in a nice area. If the only choice was living in a crap area of Dunstable then I wouldn't bother. housemate seems fine as well, reasonably attractive girl in her 20s
- work moving to St Albans could get put back further
Cons
- Dunstable is a hole.
- St Albans is nice.
- St Albans has really good links to London. 2 minutes walk to a train station and then 20 mins to London on the train. I just don't think I'd use this enough to make it worth it though.
- all the stress of moving house again. Plus I don't know how I'll actually get my stuff to Dunstable, have to get someone to help me move I guess.
- have a hamster (mates at university bought it while I was away for a weekend, then like sh*thouses they didn't take responsibility and look after it in the holidays) which might not go down well at new place. not a big deal though, could hide it in the cupboard for a bit or get my parents or a mate to have it.
- the place I'm currently living is literally 30 seconds walk from where work will be when it moves to St Albans in January. BUT it's likely when the move to St Albans happens I'll move in with some blokes from work in St Albans, so that's a bit irrelevant.
tl;dr perhaps. Thought I'd put it out on OTF, I reckon out of the replies some will be useful and sensible advice.

so surely no point in moving to dunstable, regardless of where you will be living in st.albans?
Yeah don't move to a hole ffs. May be good initially saving all that money in rent but in a years time you'll be wanting to move again.
I moved to High Wycombe instead of Manchester/London a few years ago and is by far the worst decision I have ever made. Yes i'm saving money here but I would rather be anywhere else! Can't wait to move next July.
one point which a couple of people have already missed - this would only be TEMPORARY. as soon as my firm moves to st albans, I will be out of Dunstable like a flash. The move should be in January, so that's four months. MD told me the other day that it definitely wouldn't be put back further than January.

Then no point moving. Moving somewhere else to rent incurs costs that would have eaten into the 100 quid saving per month you would make.
