Learn to drive. Don't move. If the move is delayed again you'l' have passed your test and could commute?
| Realistically I don't think I could learn to drive quickly enough to make it worthwhile. I don't have the money to spend hundreds on loads of lessons in a short space of time, it'd surely be a few months before I could pass. Haven't even got a theory booked (passed it over two years ago so it's expired) </BLOCKQUOTE>
Hmm, well if you really are struggling to find any way of meeting anyone then maybe move. I personally wouldn't, as long term the company will move to where you are, and I'd get on the lessons asap because being able to drive will benefit you anyway more than likely.
Depends how fussed you are about not knowing anyoen currently and if you don't think that could be resolved in any way. Think I mentioned it last time, but surely there are some clubs/teams you could join?

The inconvenience of getting to/from work is more of a reason for moving than the social thing.
Not knowing anyone isn't bothering me as much as it was a couple of weeks ago, but it's still a problem and there isn't much sign of meeting people here. Considered joining a football team but a combination of ingrowing toenail and working weekends means I probably can't. Don't know what clubs I'd join. Making slightly whiny excuses now so I'll stop.

Personally i'd move the £100 a month extra would be the overriding factor, plus in reality it's more as there's no transport costs for getting to work.

Not excuses really if they prevent you from stuff.
Simple choice then, can you handle the commute for another six months or so? If yes then stick, as the company will likely move by then, plus you can at least start lessons to drive. If no, then move.

commute is a grind already after just one month with nice weather. forgot to mention what merry_miller said about the commuting costs - I reckon that will save about £100 a month as well. It's not cheap at all, especially in evenings when I have to get a bus and a train and sometimes a taxi. Think I'm going to move. plus i get to be friends with mikey g.

Substantially higher up the sales list, currently at number 32, is a book that absolutely can be judged by its cover, largely because its cover features the words "Richard Littlejohn". In fact, just for fun, let's review it by its cover. That seems fair. So, the full title is Littlejohn's Britain, which is spelled out in hideous red lettering with a thin white border, across two lines, spaced slightly too far apart, as though the designer were consciously emulating a cheap pizza delivery menu. It's so ugly, it seems almost deliberate - as though they made this section of the cover as offensive and nasty as possible in a desperate last-minute bid to distract attention from the large photograph of Richard Littlejohn that hovers below it.
A noble effort. But it doesn't work. I can't help noticing Littlejohn's picture, even when my eyes are looking elsewhere, because his face smells - or at any rate, I think it does. I can smell it in my brain. Even when it's just a photo. It smells like someone breaking wind in a pair of cheap nylon trousers while eating a scotch egg in a hot car passing the Tilsworth Golf and Conference Centre on the A5 outside Dunstable. But worse.

I actually moved to Dunstable about 3 years ago, with my folks, from Potters Bar (near St. Albans for those of you who don't know the area). It's a funny place, kind of isolated (maybe i'm used to living nearer to London) and joins straight on to Luton (now there's a hole, but i digress...)
FACT: one of the largest towns in the South East without a train station
FACT: There is actually a neighbourhood called downside...
FACT: You need to have at least 2 kids to be a real teenager in Dunstable
Hope this helps, see you at Cash Convertors!

Oh and about the commute, (may be a dumb suggestion but hey...)
Have you considered a motorbike? I usually commute a mine to the St Albans/ Potters Bar area most days a week for various reasons and it works out cheap.
+ No driving lessons (£)
+ Skip A5 traffic (which is dire)
+ Cheaper than buying a car
+ Cheaper insurance
+ Cheaper Tax (£15 p/a)
+ Less fuel, more £
+ Free parking? Depends where of course
- Winter is coming
- Obvious safety issues
- Winter is coming
Anyway just an idea for ya |
