i was round someones house last night setting up something on there computer, he had Vista on it, didnt like it at all, XP seems much better

I cant believe that tbh they must ask for a registered VAT number and some info on the business. If you try to purchase it when you dont qualify for tax exemption it's fraud surely ?

Ohhhh, no, no, no. You can't purchase it without paying the VAT unless you provide the required details, but if you just say you're not tax exempt than all they want is a company name and you still pay the VAT.
