I am pretty much useless at the moment, 2nd year in uni without much skill (will soon change though hopeuflly) and practical experience. In an effort to improve this, I'm gonna start learning this php thingy followed by mysql, seeing as I study Computer systems engineering, thought they will be a decent tool to have although not relevant to my course.

I'm poor so can't afford lessons etc, it's gonna be a self learning thing. I've done these things before and I really don't want to turn this into a waste of time experience where I learn, but only up to a certain point where the knowledge is pretty much useless.

Anyone with experience in those things? how did you first learn? you any good now?
There are plenty of materials on the web, all I need is a little bit of guidance in direction, so I can go about learning the 'key' stuff. Thanks
