I'd rathjer see it as a club competiton, even if it was an under 21 or under 19 one. Most likely the latter as Celtic would win most of the time!
Still, at least it should make for ome interesting matches
| Who won the U19s double last season, spanking the mighty Celtic 5-0 in the Scottish Cup final? </BLOCKQUOTE>
btw that has nothing to do with the overall value/strength of a youth setup/vivaio (i mean winning the double once everyonce in a while)
if not juve, inter and milan might be considered the best in italy beause they tend to win the youth competitions, yet atalanta and lecce are both considered better at 'breeding' future starts. the fact is a lot of the players in the juve, milan, inter ones come from atalanta, lecce or someone else at a young age.
(i realise it is less lickely this happens between celtic and rangers, just pointing out winning the thing is the only way to see how good a youth system is)

Very true.
However, despite producing the "best" young players over the last few years, very few of Celtic's youngsters go on to first team level.

| Mayby it's because it's a hell of a lot harder to get into the Celtic first team than it is to get into one of the smaller sides in Scotland or the Championship in England
still there are 4 former/current Celtic youngsters in the Scotland squad, while Rangers only have Bazza and Hutton

| Allan McGregor and Barry Robson are in the squad as well and both started their careers at Rangers |
