personally i think captains should be in charge of his players actions on the pitch. Any lip from anyone and the captain gets booked.
Thats the worst idea I have ever heard </BLOCKQUOTE>

Should only the club captain be allowed to speak to the referee? Post #22
might sound snobbish but i think a lot has to do with the intelligence, social background and education of the players.
Cricket and rugby played mainly by players who have been university and/or public school educated from middle class families. They have more respect for authority.
Footballers on the other hand are thick as **** school dropouts.
Obviously im stereotyping and there are of course exceptions.

Would stop players crowding around the ref. Look at rugby, if the refs not happy with things he talks to the catpains and they sort it out.

referees should speak to one player at a time and not allow groups of players to hound him/her
How can the ref stop that ?? Running away would just cause a "Benny Hill" scene with players chasing him.
Players are responsible for this - not refs. </BLOCKQUOTE>
Well quite simple communication is needed. "I'm speaking to player x atm, go away and wait your turn or i'll book you"
Quite simple really

I would actually love to see referees start clamping down on players who give them serious grief. The shock on a managers face as he sees his side reduced to 7 men might get the message through that on pitch discipline is needed. Would be carnage for a few weeks but it would make a vast difference long term.
Like i said, just issue every player surrounds the ref a yellow card for dissent, if there already on a yellow card from earlier then give them a second yellow & send them off, they will soon realise they cant get away with it, Easy.

Slight misconception here. In Rugby any player can speak to the ref at any time, but if they argue/swear they get marched back 10 metres and if they swear at the ref (ie call them a cuunt) The ban is up to 48 weeks iirc, with the minimum being 10.

Captain shouldn't take the punishment for another player - that player should. Let him explain to his manager and the fans why he acted like a twat and lost his side the game by getting sent off. No need to punish the captain.
