referees should speak to one player at a time and not allow groups of players to hound him/her

Anyone can speak to the ref, as long as they're doing so in a reasonable manner. You don't need an armband to do that.

I would actually love to see referees start clamping down on players who give them serious grief. The shock on a managers face as he sees his side reduced to 7 men might get the message through that on pitch discipline is needed. Would be carnage for a few weeks but it would make a vast difference long term.

personally i think captains should be in charge of his players actions on the pitch. Any lip from anyone and the captain gets booked.

How can the ref stop that ?? Running away would just cause a "Benny Hill" scene with players chasing him.

Players are responsible for this - not refs.
