Again I read in the paper that our fighter planes have been scrambled as Russian bombers head towards British airspace.
Again the military says it's just Russia trying to remind people it can't be pushed around just because it's no longer the USSR.
Do you think they will start flying further and further towards our territory, despite having no clear aim as nothing seems to really be done about it? Is it something we should be taking (?more) seriously?
They weren't really heading for UK airspace, so much as just resuming the North Atlantic patrols that used to have them skirting around NATO airspace back in the days of good old Cold War.
The fact they could get 8 Bears fuelled and serviceable is more a sign of how poor their military has been since 1991. It's a sign they're starting to get back to where they were, but only a small one.

Russia repeatedly flies bombers towards Britain Post #5
Doing it more for show of course as the Bear bombers must be well past their use by date by now, hardly stealthy or able to be a real threat...most modern surface to air missiles must be able to whack em out the sky. The Tupulov swing wing bombers looked darn cool though.
Wonder how their fighters compare to the Typhoon...not heard of many new MiG's or Sukhoi's coming out although the old ones were darn sweet looking machines.

There not Bombers at all these days
mr Bear is backed with electronic inteligence equipment and is used for testing out the Nato air defence systems, and locating the Atlantic Squadrons of the Nato Navies
