1 reason Steven Gerrard can also tackle
that 1 reason isnt enough. not even close.

Scholes = Gerrard tbh both do have different qualities but both are equally important to the respective teams both can hit a great strike from distance, both can perform in the big matches or those which matter.

1 can tackle, 1 cant deciding factor for me tbh were it reversed i'd say Scholes but it isnt

scholes at his peak obv

but if its gerrard v scholes, both at their peak, gerrard easily, much more of a complete footballer, and has done a lot in a much worse team, while scholes has never been out of a bad team, except for him never performing for england

Actually I would say that Scholes was playing well for England at the time of his retirement despite being messed about positionally. The criticism towards him was entirely about the fact he was scoring drastically less goals than under Keegan. Which was incredibly harsh considering that he was played in a completely different way under Eriksson. It would have been interesting to see if that changed over time but I guess we'll never know.

Has Scholes ever carried Manchester Utd though? If you swapped them around I think United would be a better side personally.

Ah, but did Liverpool depending on Gerrard so much make him out to be a much better footballer than Scholes in a team where he wasnt depended on at all?

I really dont think he was playing that well at all, not in his central position and not out on the wing, which wasnt his fault in particular. Team wasnt pulling up any daisies but he seemed to coast at that time, the retirement from England wasnt overly surprising, i always got the feeling that he was relieved more than anything when he quit

Scholes has never had to carry utd

Its just that liverpool have been so bad that gerrard has to carry them so much

yeah, for his work rate alone, scholes never rallied the team those times that nobody performed like gerrard would do week in week out

plus all this was done when he wasnt at his peak
