depends how you define better tbh. having run (iirc?) the four fastest times ever, Powell's got a pretty legitimate claim in terms of pure speed?

Just hard for me to comprehend how anyone could think that was more important than peforming when it really matters?

Each to their own, but I really do feel that thinking anything but "Gay > Powell" is pretty bizzare.

I don't know anything about athletics, but how could the world record holder (who has actually just broken the record again 5 minutes ago) be dismissed so out of hand?

Says he got 9.78, but was the fastest time ever run in accordance to the wind and stuff?

I'm with you on this. I have never followed atheltics and probably never will, but if Powell, throughout his life, has run 4 of the best times in history (or whatever it is), I'm finding it hard to see how thinking Powell>Gay is 'pretty bizarre' purely because Gay beat him in one specific race, or something like that.
