Probably because the only notable thing Phil Neville has done for England was give away that penalty against Romania.
that's both rubbish and no justification for booing him. wp.

as for the thread title, pretty simple as far as this case is concerned - England fans are morons. i think even the average big brother eviction crowd has a higher average IQ than your typical england crowd at wembley. </BLOCKQUOTE>

Clearly backed up by the england fan who appeared on the tv yesterday with the word 'GRANDMA' tatooed on his arm. we presumed he got drunk and misspelt grandmaster. </BLOCKQUOTE>

But that is spelt correctly?

Not really. And not really my point either. I didn't agree with Bentley's decision.

But we enjoy being bitter arseholes instead of looking at what's best for the side in this country.

But anyone who did watch Bentley play towards the end of last season wouldn't be criticizing his decision to drop out, as it was plain to see that he was fatigued. Still in decent enough shape to play, but had he played for the U21s he'd then go straight from there to the Intertoto cup, then a new season, and then, maybe, Euro 2008. Followed by another full season.

Like Rats says, not everyone is the same. This was Bentleys first full season, and while 51 starts (+ a couple of U21 games) might not be a big deal to some players, it was still 22 more games than he had played in a season before.

It was absolutely the right decision to drop out, but he really chose the worst time to announce it. Should've done it a lot sooner. I certainly see why people are disappointed, but I still think the booing was :thdn:.

Was at the game yesterday and literally couldn't believe it when everyone started booing.

Asked the guy next to me why he was booing him and got told... "It's his Arsenal connection, innit'.

Don't agree with what Bentley did in the summer regardless of his 51 starts (which equates to something like 180 minutes of football a week...), but we should never ever boo our own players.

You'd think he was an odious little **** and some fans might jeer him at the next home game he played in.

England fans think Bentley disrespected England, ergo they're jeering him. I don't agree with fans booing their own players, ever, but he's being booed for the same reason a club player might be booed.

Sorry for not jumping on the "omfg, England fans r retarded n r not real football fans" bandwagon. Yeah, they may be retarded, but no more retarded than your average football crowd.
Club is more important than country you spacktard.

At least Bentley was being honest. Or would fans prefer him to turn up in the wrong frame of mind and turn in shite performances?
