I think it starts (or not) with this man being struck by lightning or something/or some bright light and gets some kind of superhuman powers or something. And I think it ends with him dying by the side of a tree. Don't remember what else the movie's about, probably the military trying to capture him and he ended up living with this lady and her son.. Came out during the 90s.

I seem to remember this film being on TV when I was about 7, so it was probably from the 70s. It was about a guy who had the ability to influence things through mind power, and there's a memorable scene for me where he makes the engines on a jumbo jet begin to fail and it start plummeting towards a skyscraper. He ends up getting smashed over the head to prevent it happening.

Anyone got any idea what the film was or where I could find it? Thought it was a rather cool concept at the time.
