Default Using fonts on web pages help

I'm creating a website for someone but they have requested a font to be used which most people won't have. I'm aware that if they don't have this font a standard one will be displayed in its place.

Just trying to find out if there is anyway to embed a font in the page or if there is some other method to do this. I've had a look at google but all results that come up are pre-2004 and not much use.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

no, not really.

you could use php to generate images on the fly with a specific font, but that'd only be any good for dynamic menus and such - to do a whole page of text would take aaaaaages...

You can choose which standard font will replace it at least

If it's a non-standard font, guaranteed it'll look rubbish anyway.

If it's only being used in small amounts (e.g. for section headers) then you could create images of the text, but that's soooo 1997.

Was coming in here specifically to link to SIFR.

Basically replaces any header elements with any font via a Flash (.swf) movie. Easily the best way to achieve what you're looking for - although this should only be used on a minimal number of elements, NOT for content in general (i.e. paragraphs and paragraphs of text)...

Not seen that before but it looks useful. HTML code is still relatively intact so it shouldn't break any search engine optimisation. Haven't looked into browser/platform compatibility, but it's quick and slick.
