Just put up some big wall, then tell the rest of the world when you knock it down. They might care a little more.

| nah, we'll just put the genocide law back on track, that'll bring us right back in the news. sharon and rumsfeld were always great admirerers of that specific law.

1) Why would Lux want half of Wallonia?
2) Why would France (Sarko) want a deprived, socialist area to finance?
3) Would Flanders become independent or join the Netherlands again?
4) Who would the Belgian King belong to?

don't flatter yourself Abe, there isn't a single intelligent flamigant that would want to join the arrogant lot from over the moerdijk...
Belgium is on a course to split ccheckho-slovakian style, but it will take many more years...

| 1/They don't....
2/They don't.... they actually already asked france, but they responded with "not in a million years"
3/Independent, never annex the dutchies, although some south hollanders would want to join us
4/a museum, or in jail where some of them belong

Since the politicians aren't even able to execute the order to divide Brussel-Halle-Vilvoorde, I can't exactly see Belgium splitting in the next 20 years.
The easiest way to keep Belgium as an entity but still achieve some sort of autonomy for Flanders is simply to reverse the way authorities are handed out. Now there is a centrifugal system which means the federal government has control of all matters that haven't specifically been appointed to communities or regions.
If that were to be reversed to a centripetal system that would have control of all matters except for the ones they appoint to the federal level. It means the regions and communities could become one entity (as it is already in Flanders) with one parliament and one government.
The federal parliament and government could be disbanded. It would create a confederal state where the regions/communities have autonomy in all matters and can still arrange common matters without having to go through the effort of creating international bilateral treaties as would be the case if Belgium split all together. Think of it as some sort of Europe of Belgium (in reference to a United States of Europe in the past).
Personally, I feel that this would be the best solution. I'm not in favour of totally splitting. And while I wouldn't mind Belgium staying together entirely, the political system as it is now is ridiculously difficult and is creating more tension than it does good for anyone.

Vlaams Belang is asking for a referendum just to heat things up a bit. That's just what they do: they stand aside, watch the other parties having difficulties and saying "they are all wrong" without coming up with concrete solutions. That's the cheapest way of getting people on your side tbh.
If the VB would work out a proposal to make Flanders independent, including solutions for EVERY difficulty there is (and there are lots of them) only then they would have the right to talk about separation.
But the fact is, it's way to hard to work out something like that at this point. And VB is way too incompetent to do such a thing anyway. Put them in a government and they will fall like stones to the ground.
It's pretty simple realy: listen very criticaly to what the VB has to say, and you'll soon enough realise that they're talking crazy. Sadly, a lot of people swallow all the BS without even thinking about it.
