| I have not seen Deadwood mentioned much in these threads. I liked it. It has a western setting and follows the development of a frontier gold town.
But it won't be for everyone's taste. The language is very old fashioned, almost like out of shakespeare play. And there is a lot of swearing.
The safe option is something like Sopranos and the West Wing.
It is hard to know because people have a preference for different genres.
Gritty crime drama
Science Fiction
Comedy that is not the traditional sitcom
Witty teenage heroine drama
Action based show
Lawyer/Hospital/Crime shows with an unconventional twist
Dark intense Drama
Serials

think it has more of a cult following, but i definetely recommend it.
| Oz is just fantastic I would reccomend it to anyone. Think I may have to rewatch the whole season soon. </BLOCKQUOTE>
at last, someone else with a bit of taste.
yeah im gonna have to sit down myself and start it again, it really is a top class series.
and it definetely kick started a fair few careers in tv/movies for a lot of its cast.
anyone who doesnt know what its about, basically, set in a prison called Oswald state penitentary (oz for short), and you got all the sick **** that goes on in prison, only they dont hold any of it back, and unfortunately gay scenes/rape is pretty common in it.
did you get them imported from america, or did you buy the region 2 dvds they started releasing in europe?
im just missing season 6 to finish it off.

| Yes, cut the sex, violence and bad language out of a Deadwood episode and it would last about five minutes, most of which would be taken up by drinking and the credits. The language isn't really that old-fashioned (though it is careful to avoid anything that sounds too modern), but I know what you mean about it sounding like something from a Shakespeare play. For anyone who hasn't seen the show, here's a sample:
(Joanie is a madame, Ellsworth is a gold miner; they're in the saloon where Joanie works)
Joanie: Will you keep a girl company?
Ellsworth: I will, but, I’m expensive.
Joanie: (laughing) Oh, I knew that lookin’ at you. I’m Joanie.
Ellsworth: Ellsworth.
Joanie: First visit to the Bella Union, Ellsworth?
Ellsworth: Yes, Ma’am. My leisure time’s usually spent at the Gem.
Joanie: What fills the rest of your time?
Ellsworth: Well, Ma’am, I’ve got myself a workin’ gold claim.
Joanie: Well, sir, is that a d-mn fact?
Ellsworth: Yes, Ma’am, a hell of a workin’ gold claim. And if we knew each other better, I’d throw a f--kin’ in there somewhere.
Joanie: If you did, I'd try to catch it.
Ellsworth: A working f--kin' gold claim Joanie. And thank you for allowing me my full range of expression.

Is indeed a good series, however most people are fairly polarised about whether they like it or not.

I would like something in the Science Fiction genre, I tried to watch Eureka once but couldnt get into it.
Anything considered, sometimes I like rubbish things and im never sure why, like watching way too much Supernatural for instance.
