The down side of smaller measures is more trips to the bar, of course.

Pathetic appeasement of conservatives has led to a ludicrous halfway house that pleases no-one.
do you really use cms and metres? over short distances i use mm as its more accurate and easier than trying to work out, say, an eighth of an inch (or whatever), but for short distances that arent so accurate, i use inches, and feet and yards too - hardly ever metres.

i think the use of miles is still so common even among younger people simply because everything here is written in miles instead of kilometres (so everyone can judge distances in miles far better than in km), and i think the same is true of the pint - everyone knows what a pint is (be it milk or beer), so it just gets used. however i wouldnt imagine many younger people using multiples of pints of measurements, they would use litres, because thats what they are taught to use, and its how products are sold, and its easier to estimate an amount.

really, to say that its ludicrous and needs changing to either all metric or all imperial, would cause far more confusion, work, and probably inability among people, as everyone has become so used to using the combined system in their own way.

There's more confusion and work overall long term by staying as we are because it's neverending. A proper shift to metric has more work in the short term, but a benefit in the longer term.

it's well better driving on the left, the only reason not many countries do it is because they all hate us.

in all other matters i concur with our european brethren. except for maybe the pints thing, but all my drinks come in shot form so i couldn't really gaf anyway.
