I've wanted a good camera for ages now and have found a guy selling a Canon EOS 400d 2nd hand (never out of the box) for €500. It's a very good deal. Problem is, I'm not sure how much use I'll get out of it, especially as the summer is over and chances for using it outdoors decrease. Anybody have a 400d? Will I outgrow it? Should I save up for a 30d.

On the flip side the Nintendo Wii took my eye in Tesco tonight. €279 with the sports package. I could probably get a better deal if I looked around. I'll use that a fair bit over the coming months I'm sure. Although I said that about the PSP aswell and that only gets taken out on long journeys. Does anybody have a Wii, is it good? What's the range of games like?

On top of this my gf has left work and is doing a year in college so I'm basically left to pay all the mortgage/bills so that money would come in handy, although I'm not broke quite yet.

Yes, the 400d is a useful bit of kit. Got one at work just before the summer and have used it loads for school events and the like.

Save the money though, especially if the other half is not earning. Better still, send her out to get a job.

Wii is brilliant for the first few hours. Then you realise there are no actual games to play.

Aslan: I have a 350d which has been superceded by the 400d. It's an awesome camera and I was chatting with the photographer at a wedding at the weekend and he said there'd be no reason to upgrade in the near future (unless you went professional and even then you could use it as your second camera... as he does).

Anyway, you will not be disappointed with the 400D if my camera is anything to go by. You can use the basic settings and still take outstanding photos... and then move onto a more indepth knowledge of the settings and really produce some stunning shots.

Listing games for previous consoles as a reason to buy never good. In addition to the fact that half of those games are utter **** doesn't help.

no idea about Canons as i've got a Nikon but definately get the camera. Its a long term investment.

I want a wii too but like yourself, i just know deep down that it'll get used for abit then left to gather dust, it's happened with all my consoles. The only problem comes a wee while down the line when you start craving lenses etc

Only get a Wii if you can regularly play it with 4 people, otherwise it's a waste of time.
