A verdict of accidental death was recorded
A teenager died when he fell from a tree and became tangled in a home-made football goal, an inquest has heard.
Stuart McInnes, 13, is thought to have fallen from a tree above the goal and become trapped in part of the netting last February.
He was found suspended in the net in his garden in Stembridge, Somerset, by his mother, who had been calling him in for dinner.
A verdict of accidental death was recorded by the inquest in Yeovil.
East Somerset Coroner Tony Williams said: "Stuart was a happy, popular lad, fully engaged at school, getting on well and participating well.
"It very much seems to be that he was up in the tree trying to further secure the twine as tightly as possible.
"He has then slipped and become entangled in the twine which has led to his suspension."
A post-mortem examination showed that Stuart had died of injuries caused as a result of the suspension by his neck in the net.
Mrs McInnes told the inquest how she had tried to lift her son out of the net and remove twine that had become snagged around his neck.
"I screamed and screamed and screamed for someone to come and help me," she said.
The teenager was taken to Yeovil District Hospital where he later died.
In a statement, Stuart's parents said: "Stuart was a lively, fun-loving boy who lived life to the full.
"He had a great sense of humour, a quick wit and a kind heart. He was full of energy and enthusiasm and made the most of everything that came his way."
You've got to feel for the poor mother who couldn't do anything to save him.
I want a teacher to be quoted as saying "He was a disruptive influence on other children, didn't pay attention in class and was frankly quite lazy"... some day.
the assistant manager of a team i played for when i was 11 was putting up a net. he was a short bloke and was jumping to put it on the hooks. he jumped for one hook and his wedding ring got trapped on one of the hooks and his whole weight pulleddown on his finger. it ripped his finger off, blood everywhere and the tendon down to his elbow. can still picture of it now
