You could look at something he did 15 years ago, and you'll find whatever tones you want to find whether they're there or not. The context you interpret it in is everything, but whether it existed or not is another story

Paedophillia (and related crimes) is seen as the work of a sick mind - and the fact that it's a crime against children it raises the emotional stakes - particularly with parents.
We can argue all day whether one crime is worse than another, but the important thing is the public perception... and the public perception is that child-related crimes are the worst.
| I'm on FBT's side of this debate.
The consequences of the smallest of crimes which are potentially against children gets blown out of all proportion by the public on a day to day basis.
Look at any kind of porn on the internet ranging from lesbians to bestiality and you jokingly get labelled a dirty old man and move on. Do the same thing where it involves anyone under the age of 16 and suddenly you deserve to have your member chopped off as you are clearly a child rapist.

| The fact that child abuse itself is often a self propagating problem is usually overlooked as well. As a nation we seem to be collectively busy indulging in the moral self righteousness of throwing people in prison with smug satisfaction, than actually try to stop it happening in the first place, and treat the fall out from it.

| Unless he wrote them himself, and was busy fantasising about nailing a 10 year old whilst he did, I think not.

| Our society is naturally predisposed to protect children so it's not surprising. The implication is that children are not willing participants (or if they are it's because they're manipulated) and so the emotional trauma is bound to resonate into their future lives.
It'd be the same if there was porn which showed women being raped (for real). It's well accepted that rape causes emotional trauma - so getting your rocks off from it seen as sick (you'd at least need to be socially detached wouldn't you?).

| Again I ask why?
Why have you automatically decided that what he did in his personal life has spilt over into his professional life?
There is nothing to point to this fact and adopting this stance just perpetuates a myth.

I can see how counselling etc may help and i never said that those who do download child porn shouldnt be given that in order to try and overcome there desire to look at those kind of images.
but i do think if you've done something like Langham has done...looking at the most horrific levels of abuse then yes you do deserve to go to prison.
