In a couple of weeks I start a new job in Andover (Hampshire), and will be looking to relocate to the area. I was just wondering if anybody was from around there, or if you guys had any advice as to good (and not too expensive) places to live?
I am a young single guy currently living in Bristol and would ideally be looking for a cheapish flat in a relatively lively area, although from what I gather it's best that I don't get my hopes too high!
If anyone has any opinions/ideas I'd love to hear them. Thanks.
I used to live in Andover and it is seriously bad for your quality of life. In the town centre, there is a plethora of Chinese restaurants, card shops and jewellers. Women are fat, ugly and shacked up with Nova driving johnboys.
It also suffers from *one horse town* syndrome ie) One of everything. One big supermarket (tesco), one Nightclub (Life - awful), one cinema (now closed).
I threw away a few years of my life in that place and really regret it now. The people are nice enough, property is cheap, but those things won't make up for the complete lack of life nearby.
Southampton would be a much better choice, although if you're commuting by rail then Basingstoke or Salisbury offer better routes in. I'm not convinced that living in any of those places is better than Bristol though, so you may be in for a bit of a culture shock.
Good luck with the move - where will you be working? HSA or Lloyds TSb perchance? Email is in the profile if you want any other info, I have plenty of friends still there!
