I got an 8600MGT with my laptop which should arrive in a few hours. I don't care much for it as I won't be hardcore gaming or photo editing but I'm still interested to know, how does it fair?

Tempting to get and stick with the 8600GTS until decent affordable DX10 cards (and games that use them are out) are out.
Anyone have any thoughts about if the quad-core Q6600 is worth it over the dual-core E6750?
| Quad-core/Dual-core debabte is swings and roundabouts really the quad-core just now I guess seems a little more future proof but by the time you are looking to upgrade there will better cpu's again.
All down to what you are using the computer for...ie for games Dual-core is fine with a good graphics card and a tone of ram going to run them good for a while.
Sound and film editing quad-core more likely quicker but still the tone of ram is useful too |

it would be cheaper to get a single 8800, and you'd get better performance.

8600gt is a decent card considering its worth £60 tbh, my brother has one and it does all he needs, plays most games pretty well, it's not hard to upgrade a graphics card you know, by the time we get proper dx10 games there'll be a new set of cards out

Yet another PC i've been looking at:
Vostro 200MT
-Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 Processor (2.33GHz,1333MHz,4MB cache)
-Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic - English
-Base Warranty - 1 Year Business Hardware Support
-Dell 19" Value Wide Flat Panel (E198WFP)
-2048MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x1024]
-500GB (7200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive with 16MB DataBurst cache
-256MB NVIIDA GeForce 8300GS Turbocache graphics card
-16x DVD+/-RW & 16x DVD Drives
Price: £434.82 (inc VAT and delivery)
What do you think of that system?
I could spend an extra £45 to upgrade to an E6750, but I don't really think it is worth it.
I know the graphics card is dire, but I could spend £80 or so on a X1950Pro or 7900GS and it'd still be £100 cheaper than the initial PC posted.

that graphics card is so bad, it actually ruins all other graphics cards withing 250 metres.
but other than that, its not too bad.
if you ever felt like overclocking, get a chaeper processor, a decent fanset and go for it,.
Core 2 Duos overclock like mad. no mercy.

| As I said, for £70 I can pick up a x1950pro (or £85 for the 512Mb version), so that graphics card would be out of the computer instantly.
I'd rather not overclock personally, I don't really want to risk frying the components.
