£616.94, inc VAT and delivery.
| hang on a seccond, the vostro is for business users? Now the 400dt is £699 excluding VAT and delivery. So really the price is ~£800 surely? </BLOCKQUOTE>
If you go through to checkout and say that you're not tax exempt, than they include VAT and shipping. I'm guessing that's what he's done. </BLOCKQUOTE>
I just put the e-value code into the home section, but either way they are basically the same.

One of my mates family went to buy a pC from PC World (no idea why) and the guy was trying to sell them Norton. He said Norton is better than any free AV as free ones get the virus definitions a week later than Norton |

You'll have to check that the Dell's PSU can cope with a decent GPU though, which is essential if you ever plan on upgrading.
| Dell have the 768MB nVidia 8800GTX as a video card option on the Dimension 9200 (on the £1200 PC), so I imagine it can handle relatively beefy graphics cards.
IIRC it has a 375W PSU.

Another mate got a laptop from Currys, and once he had said he wanted to buy it, the guy basically vanished and started trying to sell another laptop to someone else, before he'd even paid for it.

You sure that upgrade doesn't include a better PSU? 375w not very powerful at all considering the rest of the PC. All depends on how efficient it is of course and how many amps it will supply on the 12v rail/s.

Right I'm off to the land of nod now so IMM I recommend you phone Dell tomorrow, ask to speak to the nerdiest of nerds they employ and demand the full specifications of the PSU they fit in the rig you intend to purchase (ideally via an email for future reference). You want to know more than how many watts it supplies, i.e. how efficient it is (in %) and how many amps it supplies on the 12v rail/s. Ask also for the part no.
Then (and only then) you will be able to make an informed decision before shelling out several hundred quid on a new machine. If they aren't able or willing to supply you with aforementioned specifications, threaten them and hang up.

Rep Power: 0 | It is interesting, but it doesn't have a monitor or Windows, and I don't really want a refurbished PC. </BLOCKQUOTE>
Dell Xps's are quality builds. It's not hard to pick up a monitor, think you will find they all come with a copy of XP.
Well I purchased one from them 5 months back via ebay as it actually cost less than buying all the parts and building it myself as I usually do. Came with windows etc...last thing I would be bothered about is a refurbished pc that comes with a year warranty.

Even so, the price doesn't include VAT, so that is £730, and then there is the cost of a monitor to add on, it's just more than I can afford, sorry.
And rudi, i'm still looking into the psu on that system, but it is definitely a 375w on all 9200 models.

Hmmm, looking at the VGA Charts (http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_2007.html?modelx=33&model1=855&model2=854 &chart=318) and while the 8600GT is basically comparable with the 7600GT, the 8600GTS is quite a bit better, about 17% better, comparable with the X1950GT and the 7900GS.
Tempting to get and stick with the 8600GTS until decent affordable DX10 cards (and games that use them are out) are out.
Anyone have any thoughts about if the quad-core Q6600 is worth it over the dual-core E6750?
