| hang on a seccond, the vostro is for business users? Now the 400dt is £699 excluding VAT and delivery. So really the price is ~£800 surely?

Where does the 8800gts rank in terms of graphics cards? Is it one of the best or just good?

If you go through to checkout and say that you're not tax exempt, than they include VAT and shipping. I'm guessing that's what he's done.

| Dell are great if you have no intention of upgrading yourself and will just buy a new PC every few years.

| A good card but won't be in a year's time. The next gen of DX10 cards are rumoured to be several times more powerful which is a HUGE leap in gpu standards. Kinda upper mid-range right now in the wider scheme of things which is ridiculous considering how much they cost.
I've said this a million times in these kind of threads but empty DX10 hype is inflating prices.

What would hold you back from upgrading a Dell? (I'm not giving lip btw, genuinely want to know)

Sorry to triple post but:
IMM get the Dell if you have to and buy an x1950xt (PSU wattage and 12v amperes allowing) and sell the crappy 8600GT. Your only real option imo (that card is about the best dx9 card available so much so that prices have actually gone up a bit recently.
You'll have to check that the Dell's PSU can cope with a decent GPU though, which is essential if you ever plan on upgrading.

| They use proprietary components (such as the power supply). Consequently, you have to buy Dell's over-priced components to upgrade or to replace faulty parts out of warranty. Don't know if the still do this but even the gfx cards they used to fit were non-standard sizes.
I'm not 100% certain which parts are proprietary or even if they still do it in all their machines but it's a pretty oft criticism of them.
