I agree that there was nothing "OMG that's absolutely disgusting and way out of order" in there, but the jokes were unnecessary and were always likely to cause offence to fans of his in particular.
| Honestly, I expected the "rally" joke. Maybe that's why it didn't surprise/bother me. The hypersensitivity to it I feel is an overreaction. I could understand people being bothered by the genuinely offensive (and tbf, I've waited 4 months for the McCann jokes and even then tried to avoid the more...controversial ones directly about Madelaine herself) and I would agree that it would be out of order to post them initially - the "cooling off" period is always warranted.

Well, that's putting it a bit too cold actually, it does register, but I wouldn't say that it affects me.
But it's much more of an big deal to me if it is someone I have followed for years or have met, which is surely natural. And it's not too much to ask in those situations that those who don't care keep their opinions to themselves is it?
| I made a "joke" about the camel woman (was it a camel?) but wouldn't mock a celeb death and find it pathetic that people quite literally race to get the first quip in, it's really really sad. </BLOCKQUOTE>
Why is the celeb worth more than the camel woman? </BLOCKQUOTE>
jesus
the celeb will (I SUSPECT) have more people who followed/supported/whatever them, built a connection of some kind, and hence be impacted on a little when they die. especially if its unexpected.
a person that you can be 99.9% sure NOBODY on here knows, is hardly going to warrant the same type of response.

| 7/7 bothered me even less than 9/11 to be honest, largely as I slept through it
But I had been to London once at the time, didn't know anybody there at the time and in many ways had no more of a connection to that than 9/11. Again it felt too distant to really affect me personally. </BLOCKQUOTE>
I didn't know 7/7 happened until late in the day - was at the other half's flat, without TV/Internet. Ended up going to London the week after the 21/7 attempts, and it was very eerie. I was uneasy about going on the tube, family were worried and took paranoid precautions like trying to get into the most deserted carriages and eyeballing anyone looking a bit foreign to death.

and as for the casual assumption that rally drivers wont have any supporters or people that care so lets stick the boot in, but yeah show some respect if its a footballer
well, it's laughable.

I'm asking why BBB thought it was acceptable to make the joke about the camel woman but not about a celebrity. Is it solely because people are more likely to be bothered about the latter? Is that not callous?

and you misunderstoon my parents comment, I wasnt referring to Rhys Jones parents, but parent in general, who empathise with a situation (ie a child dying) and thus get an emotional attachment as a result.

The camel woman isn't worth more or less. It's just the story was incredibly amusing.
Not that much funny about helicopter crashes. Death by sexed camel, always funny.

I remember going on a bus on the afternoon of 7/7 ... when there were still loads of warnings out and high alerts.
I won't deny I was a tad more nervous than usual on that journey.
But think I kept it in perspective pretty well.

I can see the anger at those who just wish to show their email inbox gets the latest joke first. However what of the person who genuinely doesn't care or is glad that x person has died? There surely must be people like that out there.
