I avoid the McCann thread as the whole thing HAS actually affected me. Reason being is that i a daughter about 6 months older than Maddy. Anything i read about the case reminds me on my wee girl and it cuts me up.
Is that too hard to understand ?

We joke about and have an apethitic attitude towards death as part of our "Englishness".
As a nation of people we are pretty jokey about most things and we use it as a natural defence to cover our emotions.
Just because we are not the sort to go around beating our breasts and wailing our hearts out, it doesn't mean that we're any less affected.
We are just far more refined in our grief and, out of politeness almost, we grieve in our own time.

I'm not saying those with differing opinions should be treated with kid gloves. In fact if their opinions withstand the onslaught of those who are "worshippers" of the deceased, then clearly there is no wrong.

However what of the person who genuinely doesn't care or is glad that x person has died? There surely must be people like that out there.
They should obviously keep silent/out of the thread for me. That's what I've done with the Maddy one, only ever opened it once and that was to laugh at Argel being banned. </BLOCKQUOTE>
Exactly why I'll avoid a Norman Whiteside is dead thread. </BLOCKQUOTE>
why should your thoughts be kept quiet on a public forum? </BLOCKQUOTE>
For the same reason you don't shout UGLY at random passers by in the street.

The comments being referred to aren't really opinions though, they are just silly comments that may cause offence.

Depends if the person you're asking is a sociopath or not.
