FAO Razzler/Fat Bhoy Tim or anyone who has worked in the Oil & Gas industry
OK, the situation is that I'm studying Petroluem Engineering at UNSW, Sydney, Australia and I'm in my third year. This Australian summer (from Nov. to March) I'm supposed to try and find some Industry Training/Work Experience with a relevant Oil & Gas industry.
Now I've tried out for the companies in Western Australia (e.g Exxon) and had no success as there aren't that many places avaliable. Since FBT and Razzler are in the Middle East and I seem to recall both saying they worked with placing people in Oil/Gas companies I was wondering if you guys could help me find some sort of summer work/Industrial training.
I'm not that interested in money, I'm more interesting in seeing how the industry works in real life. I live in Sydney but am definitely willing to pay my own way to Dubai if I'm guaranteed some sort of work experience. I should probably warn you that my marks are pretty rubbish with a couple of failed courses.
Cheers.

My degree is very specific concerning Petroleum Engineering. I don't think the mining companies would take me. We do have a Mining Engineering faculty and a proper degree.
Any part of the Oil/Gas industry, not choosy at all.

Won't find many oil industry jobs in Dubai, as the industry is here in Abu Dhabi.
You won't find the local operating companies interested in giving you a chance, but you will find some of the subcontracting firms interested. Since you're studying in Australia my best suggestion would be to check with Worley Parsons.

Is it generic petroleum engineering, or a specific field? I'm not in the recruitment business myself anymore, but it would help to point you in the right direction.
