Never laughed. It's not generally considered as the 2nd most reputable sport anywhere I know people from. Which is a couple of places.

we've got Luol Deng already who is genuinely one of the best players in the NBA and Ben Gordon could choose to play for England so Team GB could be great for 2012

Well in my point the thing that makes a sport more reputable is the number of countries that are competitive for this sports. Countries like USA,Australia,China, Argentina, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, ex- USSR countries, ex- Youglosavia countries have good teams.
I don't think cricket is more reputable than basketball
