If it weren't for Yao? He's not the most popular jersey sold in China and he wasn't even the most popular Chinese player until Wang Zhi Zhi ****ed on the national team. Yes, it helps that Yao is indeed fantastic at basketball - but I think you are really overestimating his impact. China liked basketball before Yao Ming and they'd still have liked it even if he were a bust in the NBA

The facts are that the NBA gets the air time in the asian nations because of Ming.
Im not sayintg they wouldnt get ANY time, but the fact is they get a lot more time because of him.

IF ming went pop in the NBA you know that the figures would drop, the fact is he is playing for a franchise that promises, means he will bring the game to billions of asians.
