83% of Chinese between the age of 15-24 say they are NBA fans, 51 TV stations in China broadcast the NBA, and 300 million Chinese are estimated to play basketball on a regular basis.
I personally don't care for the sport, but something tells me that given the Chinese support for the sport - it's probably #2
How much if Yao Ming wasn't there? </BLOCKQUOTE>
Probably plenty, he's only got the 6th most popular jersey in China behind Bryant, AI, T-Mac, Wade and Lebron. </BLOCKQUOTE>
And why do you think the chinese who know Bryant, iverson etc etc are apart from Ming...STFU, the chinese know about ball because of ming, hence him being the most voted all star each year.
Moopet. </BLOCKQUOTE>
Interest in the NBA begat Yao Ming, not the other way around. And Ming isn't the most voted all-star every year.

Why england hasn't got a good basketball team? Post #142
Look back at the ratings of the NBA before Ming got drafter, then look at i now and poretent you dont realise the world wide impact he has had on the game.
Im right, you know i am. Ming had brought the game to a bzillion people that wouldnt have been intrested if he wasnt there.

You are far too drunk to continue this conversation.
Chinese interest in the basketball meant they put money into developing players like Yao Ming and Yi Jianlan. That Yao is successful has helped continue this interest, and expand the coverage in the NBA in China - but they'd still be interested in the sport even without Yao Ming.
