Evil Nemesis, airbrushing and smudging could do this also. You may wish to try looking for some tutorials through Google, using photoshop+tutorials+fire for your search.
This would be simple. just draw a solid shape as a start and treat it as it's the text. Work on it from there. Of course, this is only speaking in context of that particular tutorial.
Be a little cautious about Panopticum plugins. I worked with one of the engineers on bugs in the first release of the Mac version of Lens Pro 3 and it worked eventually in PS 7. (I like Lens Pro.) On the Mac Platform it was broken by CS and has never been updated to work with either CS or CS2. Fire was a bit dicey, too and I never really liked the results it produces.
Before you buy anything from Panopticum, be sure to try a demo and make sure it runs on your platform with your version of PS. For the last two years or so I've never been able to get a response from Tech Support.
Hey thanx for warning me about that !! Well I'm trying fire plugin demo and it's working fine on ps cs2, If I'll like it I'll buy it. I've also downloaded lens pro and alpha strip demos.
1. make a blank image, preferabbly black.
2. Make a new layer.
3. Filters - render - difference clouds
4. filters - render - clouds (repeat Ctrl F) about 20 times until you get a nice texture.
5. image - adjustments - gradient map, Make a new pattern, Add a few colors starting with
Black, Dark red, Orange, Yellow, and ending with white. space them evenly and press okay, And select Dither. Press okay, And there's your fire.
Another good tip, is to use a sharp eraser tool, use a small brush and erase some parts to make more flame trails.
