Splitting my broadband, what do i need ? (wired)
Such a noob,
i just want to split my broadband so i can play the ps3 online whilst the bird messes on her laptop.
I don't want a wireless router just a box that could intelligently share the connection.
cheers

Doesn't work like that. You need a router, either wireless or wired. Either way, it's pretty inexpensive.

You need an ethernet switch but a combination router/switch/modem isn't going to be that much more expensive anyway (and would be far easier to set up)
You aren't going to get a splitter like for a phoneline or something for peanuts. You need to manage the signals so it's not just splitting the cable.

Routers:
Cable or ADSL depending on what you have are £25-£30 quid these days.

If your modem has an ethernet output, then all you need is a standard ethernet switch.

I was trying to sell my router for $5 but no buyers, so I can't imagine they're too expensive. Everyone's getting rid of theirs now anyway because of all the wi-fi stuff.
