Summer is great here in Portugal and i enjoy it more than the Autumn or Winter but you have to see that every station has it´s own advantages.
The advantages i see in the winter is that you take a warm shower, go to the sofa to watch the telly with blankets at your legs. It´s also cool when at nights the weather is humid and foggy but not like when it rains. Since it doesn´t get so cold like in the UK you can enjoy walking at night.
Like someone said, I think depression is too strong a word for it but winter is a bit miserable when it is cold and raining all day and I can't take my daughter to the park, like I do at other times of the year.
The best part of winter is seeing ladies wearing foxing knee-length boots  Not that I'm a perv or anything...
Suffered from SAD for years, but it hit the most after living for most of a decade in the Middle East. Went back to the UK for university after having only spent 1 winter (and it sucked) in the last 8 in a cold climate.
Got far too used to blue skies, sunshine and dawn/dusk times that don't vary much. After a few years back I managed to slowly adjust a little, but I was never able to fully adapt so I got back out here to the Middle East once I graduated.
I Love the Scottish winters, it means less hours working and a colder cleaner feel to the world. Best days are hard frosty mornings where you can feel the sun just kissing your skin on one side of your face and the other side is frozen solid
I also do more hillwalking in the winter as it brings you the beauty in the hills and makes you feel even further from civilisation.
