And the heir of Henry III was a certain Edward, best remembered as being played in Mel Gibsons's historically accurate film by a certain Irish-American actor called Patrick McGoohan, who is best known for starring in the classic series 'The Prisoner'.
Why does the description in the manual say Henry II then (at least that's what I thought it said). I didn't notice the date I must admit (only played about 3 turns so far).

Thanks for the info on who was king in 1250 and on Henry III though... I'll make a note of it to fill the gap in my knowledge!

A misprint I'm sure, remember it was Australians that made the game and manual, they are not the brightest.

Yeah a massive fight... at least it gave Finneys an opportunity to be patronising.

Just another step in his education, then my work will be done.

tbh the game moves further away from history with every release, so I'm rarely surprised.

And yes, I know it's just a game and not an education tool!!

Anyway, now we've ascertained which actual period the Brittania campaign takes place...

I've found this scenario quite difficult to 'get into' really. So much micromanagement from turn 1 (as the English).

Might become a Celt and see how I get on with that.

I think I read on a forum that Wallace is a 'hero' and King Robert is not. A few better educated Scots were fairly annoyed by this gross oversight.
