IIRC Caroline Aherne had cancer of the retina.
I have heard of tongue and penis cancer, but they are pretty rare. A google search confirmed that they exist.
I don't think that there is a part of the body that can't be affected by some form of cancer.
| well they are all made up from cells
isnt the tongue cancer caused mostly by chewing tobacco? </BLOCKQUOTE>
Most mouth cancers are from tobaccos of one sort or another. </BLOCKQUOTE>
well yeah obv.

Smoking and drinking are the two main causes, and the risk factors for people who do both are higher than just the addition of the chances for each individually, as the two things contain substances which combine to increase the risk further.
Realtively speaking, risk is low, however. Mouth cancers account for less than 2% of all cancer cases in the UK </BLOCKQUOTE>
Jearm is right in so far that dip is supposed to be the worst, especially for lip cancer.

| It's effectively different diseases, that share some common elements. That's why the idea of a "cure for cancer" is so unlikely, because the different cancers work in different ways. That's why treatment regimes can be so different, depending on what you have. Quote: |
2: Is there a particular reason that Breast Cancer research ( and publicity for it ) is so prevalent compared to other types of Cancer? Is it just because that it only affects women ( which seems a bit sexist IF that is the sole reason ) as there are many types that are as common as Breast cancer ( Lung and Colo-rectal cancer in both sexes, and Prostate cancer in men, with Lung and Colo-rectal cancer having a higher rate of mortality ) or is there another reason?
| It's a combination of being the most common form of the disease, combined with the fact that self diagnosis is both relatively easy, and extremely effective in terms of getting early treatment. And while the others you mentioned there have high rates of incidence, they are all lower than Breast Cancer.

Should have specified that i meant in the UK. In terms of number of cases it's not as high as the causes i mentioned, but your point is correct in that that will simply be down to lower incidence of using the stuff here. It's a bigger direct causal link.

| The heart?
Never heard of "Heart cancer" in my life, though doubtless someone will correct me.

Cardiac or angio sarcoma. It is quite rare, but it does exist.

according to wiki, Prostate cancer is more common in men than breast cancer is in women, and although Lung cancer effects less people, it effects both men and women equally and has a much higher mortality rate ( 35% ) than both Breast cancer ( 15% ) and Prostate cancer ( 11% )

My figures were from the cancer research campaign, and so are UK only. They are the 2004 cancer incidence figures. I don't know where Wiki's are from?
The mortality rates look about right, although Bowel cancer is also higher than breast and prostate, although quite a bit lower than lung.

Forgotten above as a cause for mouth cancer is the HPV virus.
As reported above there can be cancer of just about every organ in the body..some rarer than others.
Some are genetically caused but most are related to outside aggressions such as chemicals from cigarettes, or radiation etc.
Prostate cancer is usually a slow one but very prevalent, in fact autopsy reports show that men that died over 75 around 70% or such have spots of prostate cancer but never were aware of them/didn't die from them.
Only treatment that would solve all cancer types would be genetic therapy where through a vector you correct the genetic weakness that "helps" the cancer develop.

Cancer is basically a unnatural form of a natural process of evolution. Cells since the beginning of time have mutated and this is how species develop, but when foreign factors (tobacco, UV light, radiation, etc) cause the cell to mutate, one of three things happen:
1) The cell dies and nothing more is heard
2) The cell mutates and starts doing harmful, bad things and reproduces itself more quickly (the lumps)
3) The cell does something new and better, but it is unnoticed/doesn't replicate enough to affect the entire body.
Theoretically, some of the X-Men's powers are possible to be caused in humans.
