Is that 'It's unfair', I hear you Chelsea fans say? I think so too.
Fair would have been a 3 match ban for Mikel, AND another 3 match ban for Joe Cole, AND suspensions for Cashley's diving and Terry's ignorant intimidation tactics. Chimbonda got a yellow last week for just telling a ref to give a guy a yellow card. I think trying to grab a card out of the referee's hand is worse than that
and please, don't even mention Louis Saha
yes, he was theatrical, and he shouldn't do that because next time he is genuinely fouled a ref might not give it due to reputation, but there was contact, it was a foul, it was a penalty. End of argument.
And in any case, so what if the penalty was given? It was the 89th minute and Man U were dominating. Chelsea would have lost by 1 goal instead of 2. Wow, what a big difference!
I'm a slightly biased Chelsea fan and although I thought the Obi foul was a harsh red, the Saha penalty was a clear double foul by Ben Haim, a slap to the face and a kick to the shin. It was an irrelevant goal anyway as we weren't looking liking scoring and we were already down 1 nil.
I've written some objective opinions on Jose previously, and my thoughts on how Jose can win a match through fear and respect have sometimes been laughed at. It was clearly evident, even at this early stage, that now Jose has gone, referees will no longer fear giving 50/50 decisions against us. Jose didn't allow for refs to make bad decisions. They knew he'd make them wholly accountable for their decisions....even if they were correct but it went against Chelsea, Jose would make it clear that he wouldn't tolerate anything other than a pro-Chelsea stance. We normally got decisions to go our way and I believe that now that our gangsta has ousted Jose, we'll see many further harsh decisions losing us points.
Mourinho commanded lots of respect from managers, players, refs, FA officials etc. Being successful isn't just decided by the teamsheet.
