Workmate is thinking of doing a course in plastering, and he gets one of these at the end. Anyone have any idea how good it is? Have googled but all the info seems very vague.

It could well be. Depending on which site I look at it compares them to GCSE's, A-levels and BTEC stuff.

Yea i think so. It ties in with NVQ'S which is generally industry training.

For instance some plumbers will do NVQ level 1 and 2 in the classroom and will need to a 1 years practical experiance to get their level 3.

They are the vocational equivalent of the National Certificates and Diplomas and the First Diplomas.

Depending on the level it will be either Level 1 (pre-GCSE), Level 2 (GCSE) or Level 3 (A-Level).

BTW these levels are nothing to do with the NVQ levels.

They have come back to him and said it's the equivalent of an NVQ 3, and most uni's take it as a foundation course.

Which seems good enough.

Not that I'm aware of

He can't just go become an apprentice due to having two kids, mortgage etc. So he's looking at an evening course to train himself up.
