Lead Balloon is a British television series produced by Open Mike Productions for BBC Four. The series was created and is co-written by comedian Jack Dee and Pete Sinclair and stars Dee as Rick Spleen, a cynical and misanthropic comedian whose life is plagued by petty annoyances, disappointments and embarrassments. Raquel Cassidy, Sean Power and Tony Gardner also star. The first series of six 30-minute episodes was broadcast on BBC Four from 4 October to 8 November 2006, with the first episode achieving the highest ratings for a comedy on the channel. Repeats of the series were run on BBC Two and BBC HD, bringing it to a larger audience.
Comparisons were made by critics to the successful American comedy Curb Your Enthusiasm, though positive comments were made about Lead Balloon's characters, particularly Magda, the Eastern European housekeeper. A second series of eight episodes was commissioned in November 2006 for broadcast in late 2007 on BBC Two, coinciding with the DVD release of the first series.
| Actually may have seen an episode of this, was quite amusing.

| Well I just think hes an average bloke, you would meet anywhere. Maybe thats the appeal but to of managed to carve out a major career just as the straight man is shocking, I just don't find him funny.
People acting like he is breaking new ground with his films when hes really not, just spoofs with slightly more depth.

He's a really sharp writer though- see Spaced et al. You're right I think in that is his appeal, Dylan Moran said something similar recently. Even if you don't like Pegg you should give this a chance though- Nick Frost is terrific throughout.

| Until he makes something that is different then he will never register or justify any of the praise he is getting.
As for his fat mate, the only thing I have liked 'Frost' in is Man Stroke Woman. Co-incidently the only time he isn't seen playing the fat man card, just to produce comedy.

If you dont like the films then fair enough, Its a bit embarrasing to see people tell you you're wrong, I mean I loved Spaced, etc but fair enough. Still I dont think you can say Frost plays "the fat man card" really

Well if you don't have any affinity with either of them then you'll probably never like any of their work- the only thing they're really guilty of perhaps is playing themselves. Frost was different in Man Stroke Woman perhaps because Pegg wasn't involved (what's Frosts' own sitcom called?) I guess. Thought it had it's moments but was fairy mediocre overall.
I thought Spaced was different and refreshing when it came out, but that was some time ago.
