I actually struggled through to book 10 out of stubbornness. How many are there now?

RIP

Read the WoT-series a couple of times. Such a shame that he won't be able to finish it himself.
And he seemed to be coping alright with the disease

Fantastic how effortlessly this thread keeps it's place on page one with only a handfull of posts.

WoT started out as 'THE' Epic fantasy work but after book 5 it just became a monster.

There are 10 last time I looked, but there was something else came out iirc but it's been a while since I was in the shop and he wasn't one of our more popular authors really.

I stopped midway through the 7th.
A couple of the characters altered behaviour to unnatural degrees. I think its because the world he created was so big he actually lost sight of their motivations.

Also, the stories started meandering as if he was eking out the series for all he could just to get to the magic 10th book.

I read a review of a book - I think the 8th or 9th book - where people say nothing much happened for 1000 pages.

There are 11 books. I don't think it was as much of a conscious decision to increase the # of books as it was getting too immersed into it all. Creating too many plots, too many characters, without fully realising how much effort it would be to tie it all together. There's been a couple of loosely related prequels, as well as a "The World of WoT" released too.

I think it's the 10th book where time moves something like 3-6 days ahead in the various storylines, probably the book you're refering too. 11, IIRC, had a bit more tempo.
