Agreed. An open verdict, leaving open the possibility for future prosecution. The whole double jeopardy rule never seemed to serve the interests of justice for me. If evidence comes up later on that proves without doubt he did it, and the jury returns not guilty now, that's it. Whereas if we had open verdicts it could be considered.

I'm no lawyer, so feel free to slate me for being naive

According to the news this morning, the jury have said that they can't do that either.

it looks like a mistrial and he walks free.

I read that the verdict was 7-5 split, but they didn't indicate which way the split was.

So, according to the report, the judge told them all to take a day off and put the case out of their minds. This is after deliberating for a week. I want that job!
