My old hard drive died on this machine so i have bought a new one. I install XP off the disc fine, then service pack 2 comes to be installed via windows update.
When it finishes and reboots, it hangs and i can't do anything except get into safe mode or safe mode with command prompt.
I have checked out microsoft knowledge base and found this article. I've tried all but the first workaround option as i don't think that will help me, so i've come to a brick wall and can't do anything.
Even more confusing is that i've done a couple of full installs on the old drive in the past which did update to SP2 which worked fine, so that indicates an issue with this new drive. I know there is some problem with windows not recognising a drive over 120gb (this is 160gb) but didnt think that was relative in this instance?
I fully expect this thread to drop like a lead balloon but hope someone can help me
