Owen Hargreaves has all but ruled himself out of Manchester United's Champions League tie away to Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old missed England's recent double-header and also United's Premier League win at Everton with a thigh strain and has still not yet recovered.

"I've never really had this injury before so this is new territory," said the midfielder.

"It looks as though I won't be ready for Wednesday as I've not trained."

Sir Alex Ferguson had hoped he would be fit, but it now seems he is set to join an already long injury list.

John O'Shea and Darren Fletcher are both out after suffering knee injuries on international duty, Park Ji Sung and Ben Foster have ligament problems and Mikael Silvestre is out for the rest of the season.

On the plus side, Wayne Rooney hopes to be involved after recovering from fracturing his foot on the opening day of the season.

Doubt I'd start with Rooney. Save him for the weekend. Saha and Tevez pls...maybe just Saha.

he is, should make the bench with any luck.

would start with Saha and Tevez - 451 not really an option with Hargreaves and Fletcher out. give Rooney half an hour if possible.

same here. Going to the pub quiz on Weds and they'll have this game on before the quiz meaning they'll need to charge through it at 100mph to get it finished after the game
