Just turned my PC on back at my uni house and it immediately picked up 5 networks, 2 of which were unencrypted, one of which connected to the internet the other way.
The other was such an IP that after a modicum of thought gave me access to the security features of that modem.
Of course, I was asked for a password on connection to that network, and inadvertantly pressed return. Well blow me, if that wasn't the default.
Now a lesser person would be manipulative than me, but why would someone not invest the time to at least partially secure their network>
Because wi-fis aren't straightforward to use and setting up the security could be seen as a bit too complicated for a lot of people. also,I think a lot people just think, what's the point? Who cares if people use their internet?
Yeah you could also easily check out the sites they're going to and all.
Just saying why some people don't bother with it. They come with instructions but a lot of people seem to say it's quite complicated. All the WPA/ WEP/etc can be intimidating I guess.

Yep, because I can't see any benefit to being able to have my laptop connected to the internet anywhere in the house without cabling.
Useless gimmick. </BLOCKQUOTE>
He's right to an extent tbf to him. However, he's a bit of a muppet to completely condem all wireless.
I know people who have a wirless router sitting almost right next to their desktop PC and have it set up for wirless.
