For added security i'd just secure the wireless network with a VPN (if the router has VPN capabilities ofc), it's what i do with mine.
A mate of mine found that dodgy 'geezers' were always parked up outside his house a year or so ago.
Then he started receiving huge internet bills after visits to premium sites and all that.
After inspecting outside he found some symbolic graffiti was on his pavement, which turned out to be a signal to all these people he had unsecured wireless for them to hijack
My old router wasnt secured for a couple of years because i had to reset it that often i just gave up with the securing bit in the end. New one is all secure though.
IIRC when my brother scans for networks to join on his laptop only two show up - ours and the chap across the road who has his secured - which i'm pretty surprised about, that is of course, unless you can secure it and not have it show up at all when someone else scans for a network
