The other option is to use a content management system, like PHP-Nuke or Joomla. Again, there's a list here if you want the ins and outs. It's easier to quickly set up a site with one of these, but there's probably two downsides with what you want:
(a) either you have to host the site on your own webspace, install the CMS yourself etc, which requires some slight familiarity with PHP coding etc
(b) or, they can host the site for you, but you have to pay for the privilege

Ah, thats what reminded me really.
I saw that thread that involved joomla further down the board, and downloaded it earlier and got it working through easyphp, which I had downloaded a couple of months ago.
Must say I didn't really look at it much, but I think I'd prefer something where I have a bit more 'control' over what I can put in - the software only seemed to let me make new articles (I was probably going wrong). I wasn't very good with it.
Perhaps I'll look at the dreamweaver trial, and even if I decide not to get it, I'll probably learn something from it that'll be useful when I'm using html or whatever.

ah, now you've reminded ME
If you're fairly OK with downloading packages and getting them running, I definitely recommend Wordpress. There's a great range of site templates/themes to download, you can do more than just blog articles (you can create blank pages and drop them into your site menu quickly), a definite thumbs-up for usability.

A long time ago, I started with Dreamweaver, its nice its WYSIWYG. yeah. But, then you really need to start writing your own scripts, its far more efficient. In my office I have a design development team, and I was shocked to see Dreamweaver being used by one of my web-developers. When I told him to start using notepad he just collapsed cos WYSIWYG stuff don't make you better.
Its how you use stuff like dreamweaver. Go learn how to write in HTML first, learn how to use CSS. Now that's really important if you want to make frequent updates to your site. The basic structure of the site can be set up and then its really easy to update without having to rewrite all the script.
There's a good tool to use...its free and its called HTML-Kit. Use that to write your scripts, then improve your CSS knowledge, and before you know it you'll be making sites in your sleep. The good thing about CSS is that you can eventually take ideas from other sites and quickly enhance your own.
It shouldn't take you long to learn CSS, its fairly easy and straightforward and there are tonnes of sites that offer structured free lessons on CSS on the net.
I remember dreamweaver now being a complete waste of money.
