Sir Bobby admitted: "There are some class players I've had to leave out.
"Alan Shearer, Ian Rush and Gary Lineker don't feature, but when you look at the strikers I've selected there was just no room for them. The more skilful players come from abroad. British players dominate the defensive positions; I think that's what we're best at.
"We have the best goalkeepers in the world, although Peter Schmeichel, who was like a big gorilla, gets in there ahead of Ray Clemence, Dino Zoff and Lev Yashin.
"The full-backs were tough to choose. I've not selected Ray Wilson, who was a marvellous player, but I worked with Stuart Pearce and Kenny Sansom and know what they are capable of. Pearce was a colossus.
"Kevin Beattie was one of the best players this country produced. He was playing for England at 19 years old and if it wasn't for injury he'd be remembered as a true great.
"John Terry and Steven Gerrard are already two England greats. There's a lot more to come from them, but I think they can sit comfortably in this company."
