Why are you not satisfied with it? I could argue that you're the victim of our society where we're bombarded with notions that being normal is bad and that we should always strive for more.

Contentment and happiness are internal emotions and if you allow them to be dictated by external forces then you are simply a victim of other people's expectations. What if you are just average, and unable to achieve any of your goals - you will look back at your lack of achievement and dispair. You will be a failure.

Everyone is different - you have no justification for criticising people for seeing the positive in what they do have.

Don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with being average, life's more about being happy. Whether you live out a humdrum life or one filled with "excitement", achieving happiness is the key.

Just the bar has been set so low now. People are just content with acheiving the bare minimum just so they can get through each week. Too many people don't try to go beyond themselves and just stay in their comfort zone relentlessly.

On the Hierarchy of needs people just strive for the 3rd level and then stay there. I just find it abnormal that people don't want to keep progressing and stand still.

All these high-flying business men retire at 55 and pop their clogs soon after anyway... who wants success

Well I consider my ability to empathise to be pretty special, and that's one thing you lack for a start.

There are plenty of people who don't even achieve the comfort zone. People with depression, stress - whatever... so being happy and content is probably above mediocre anyway.

There is no definition for mediocre. Seeing the world isn't special - why should it be so? Having a high-flying job isn't special - why should it be? You can't define what's above mediocre because to many people travelling the world and having a great job is not important.

Key to life is being content with the little things. I even enjoy going food shopping at times

If mediocrity includes being able to afford a few pints now and then, and a decent house and car, going to football matches every weekend, enjoying reading a good book and listening to good music, while being happy with one's career although not necessarily happy with the current job, then I'm mediocre and perfectly happy with that.
